MY MOTHER AND THE GHOST OF ME (2025)
FIRST EXHIBIT:
CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY SPAZIO MUSA
TURIN – JULY 2025
“My Mother and the Ghost of Me” is an intimate visual reflection on love as an invisible bond, a silent form of care, and an act of intergenerational resistance.
In this series of self-portraits, my mother and I revisit the places of our shared childhood in the Roman neighborhood where we were both born and raised: a school, a park, a villa. Our bodies appear blurred and fragmented. My mother is a solid, mute presence, while I move through loss and reconstruction.
The work unfolds in three acts: childhood (in color), loss (in black and white), and healing (return of color).
The images are deliberately imperfect: tilted, out of focus, invaded by flash. A visual grammar that rejects romanticism and embraces the crack, the interruption, the untamed memory.
In one photo, there is Picchio: the rusted pony cart I rode as a child. It’s still there.
It survives, like memory.
Like love.
Not the idealized kind, but the kind that remains: a silent song between mother and daughter, suspended between the intimate and the collective, like the inextricable knot that binds us together.
